Chills Chills occur when person feel cold because of a cold environment or a decrease in temperature. More common causes of chills include fevers, influenza, common colds, chest infection, sinusitis. Sometimes chills can be a result of more serious conditions such as pneumonia, meningitis, and malaria. Poisonous snake and insect bites can also result in chills. If you know or suspect a serious condition, or if the chills are not abated by simple remedies, the best advice is to seek help and diagnosis from a medical professional. * Instead of your regular hot tea or coffee, have a glass of hot water mixed with honey and lemon. Put a teaspoon of honey, lemon juice and a little grated ginger in a glass and add hot water. Stir and drink. * Boil lettuce leaves for ten minutes, strain off and chill the water (cool, not cold) and apply it to burned skin. Some dermatologists also recommend this. * Mix some honey and lemon juice in a glass of hot water and sip. Mix a tablespoon of honey and a squeeze of lemon into a warm glass of water. Don’t down it in one shot though; take time to sip and let it warm you from the inside. * If the fever is too high, take catnip tea and ½ tsp. of lobelia tincture every 4 hours. Do not use if pregnant or breast-feeding and do not give to a child less than one year old. * A traditional home remedy for treating chills is to rub a warm wet washcloth or towel over the body for 20 minutes or for as long as can be tolerated. Add warm water as needed to keep the water temperature the same and help prevent shivering. * Another remedy it to take a bath with hot water and rubbing alcohol. ![]()
