In the 1800’s this condition was referred to as neurasthenia. In 1938, the name changed to myalgic encephalomyelitis, a term which is still used in Europe. In the U.S. in the 1980’s, the name was changed again to chronic fatigue syndrome. Whatever the name, this syndrome has a profound effect on the lives of the people who have it.
