Current Pro-football Player May Be First Medical Marijuana NFL Martyr
by Paul Fassa
(The Best Years in Life) The media propaganda and government lies that were putting the clamps on hemp since 1936 to protect some threatened vested industrial interests with friends in high positions became an accepted social stigma that has held for decades. And there's no resistance to medical marihuana greater than that from the NFL.
The NFL's medical policy for pain, which is chronic among pro-football players, is opioid dependent, and the opioid painkillers get so many people seriously dependent and addicted that it has been declared by some as an epidemic out of control and the worst medical mistake currently.
I take issue with that, there have been worse. But even mainstream medical doctors have raised that concern.
They become addicted after weeks and/or months on opioid painkillers: Hydrocodone (Vicodin); Oxycodone (OxyContin, Percocet); Morphine (Kadian, Avinza); and Codeine's related drugs.
Now some players involved in or retired from the most chronic pain enduring sport, football, are trying to stir the fixed consciousness of the NFL plutocracy into recognizing pot as a non-addictive safe painkiller and brain injury protective, including CTE prevention.
It's even been clinically proven here in the USA and Israel that cannabis is very useful for resolving opioid painkiller addiction while maintaining pain relief. It even works to help heroin addicts. Yet cannabis is still considered a Schedule I substance: Medically usesless, dangerous, and addictive. Ironically, the NHL (pro hockey) doesn't consider cannabis a banned substance.
The NFL commissioner Roger Goodell is counting on their own medical experts to determine whether the league should allow medical applications of cannabis for players. That's the line they used for denying the existence of CTE for well over a decade, covered in this recent TBYIL article. So don't hold your breath guys.
Was Baltimore Raven offensive lineman Eugene Monroe Cut for Being too Active?
Eugene Monroe, an offensive lineman, was very recently cut from the Baltimore Ravens. He's now an unsigned free agent. He was so outspoken about trying to get the NFL to allow medical marijuana and cut back on opioid painkillers that some thought that's why he got cut.
It was certainly a contributing factor. But other factors have been mentioned, such as his injury history that kept him out of almost half the action for two seasons and his highly salaried contract during a time when salary caps are causing teams to cut back and recruiting players with lower starting contractual financial agreements.
Still, Eugene's activities, such as donating $80,000 to The Realm of Caring, an organization connected to John's Hopkin's University and University of Pennyslvania for research into medical marijuana efficacy and safety for sports injuries, had become a newsworthy issue among sports writers. You can see Eugene in action with Realm of Caring staff and families in this video.
Eugene even has a website devoted to his cannabis activism, where he states on its home page, "I'm calling for the NFL to remove marijuana from the banned substance list; fund medical marijuana research especially as it it relates to CTE; and stop over prescribing addictive and harmful opioids. He also has an essay on his site, "Getting Off the T Train". T stands for Toradol, a strong NSAID (non steroid anti inflammatory drug) which is injected before each game as needed by players in pain.
Eugene mentions his awareness of how players still battle with opioid addiction after quitting or getting cut and not picked up by other teams. The $80,000 Eugene contributed to a "Realm of Caring" fundraiser is primarily for CBD (cannabidoil) that is either no or low THC (the psychtropic compound) neurological research protective and curative research.
But the NFL is still thinking like the 1937 prohibitionist Harry Anslinger who first publicly declared cannabis an evil weed and the gateway to opioid addiction and crime. Wait, the NFL already uses opioids and players are getting addicted.
When the Baltimore Ravens coach John Harbaugh was asked by sports scribes about Eugene's pro-medical marijuana actions, especially the large donation to Realm of Caring, he responded with “I promise you, he does not speak for the organization,”
The reality is that the Realm of Caring is inolved with raising awareness for CBD or cannabidiol to protect against the degenarating ravages of CTE, which comes from repeated physical brain traumas that are not classified as concussions.
Interior linemen, such as Eugene Monroe, are most prone to this level of repeated head trauma. The brain, which is not physically secured in the skull with shock absorption material, instead sort of "floats" in a dense liquid and bounces into the inside of the skull repeatedly.
Here's a very informative video with a few former players coming forth with how CBD should be looked into as a preventative against long term neurodegenerative diseases such as CTE.
