Delicious Gluten-Free Homemade Biscuits

Do you love biscuits - and who doesn't? - but want to avoid the gluten? Now you can make delicious gluten-free biscuits which also use healthier butter instead of lard and use Himalayan or sea salt instead of the refined salt found in commercial biscuits.

Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose gluten free flour or coconut flour
1 tablespoon baking powder*
1/2 teaspoon Himalayan or sea salt
1/2 cup butter
Optional: 1 teaspoon of coconut sugar
3/4 cup milk (preferably organic - raw milk would be even better and raw goat milk would be the bomb!)

* Add an extra teaspoon of baking powder if you use coconut flour. Make your own easy aluminum free baking powder with this recipe:

Aluminum-Free Homemade Baking Powder

(As always, The Best Years in Life recommends choosing organic content and fresh content as much as possible for the healthiest recipe. Also, wash all fruits and vegetables before cutting or adding to the recipe.)

  

Directions:

1. Preheat oven to 450 degrees F

2. In a large mixing bowl sift together flour, baking powder and salt (and coconut suger, if desired). Cut in butter with a fork or pastry blender until mixture resembles coarse crumbs (or use very cold butter and grate it into the mix)

3. Pour milk into flour mixture while stirring with a fork. Mix in milk until dough is soft, moist and pulls away from the side of the bowl.

4. Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface and toss with flour until no longer sticky. Roll dough out into a 1/2 inch thick sheet and cut with a floured biscuit or cookie cutter. Press together unused dough and repeat rolling and cutting procedure.

6. Place biscuits on ungreased baking sheets and bake in preheated oven until golden brown, about 10 minutes.

Makes 8 to 12 biscuits
