How to Become a Healthier and Younger You

(The Best Years in Life) Not long ago, I saw a funny meme in which a young woman was telling her ex-boyfriend that she learned that every cell in the body was replaced within seven years and that meant that in seven years he would never so much as have touched any part of her." That struck me as pretty funny, but it also struck me as perhaps being pretty true since I have seen reports for years which contend that our bodies do indeed replace MOST of our cells over time.

It's an intriguing idea to be sure, and one that has caught the popular imagination. Here's how the story goes: Every seven years (or 10, depending on which story you hear) we become essentially new people, because in that time, every cell in our body has been replaced by a new cell.

So I decided to do some investigation to try to separate fact from fiction - and what I found out was that with a healthy diet and lifestyle, optimum nutrition (including supplementation) and elimination of life-robbing toxins you can pretty much grow yourself into a healthier person - a younger you, in essence.

The Rates Our Bodies Cells Die and Are Replaced

Individual cells have a finite life span, and they are replaced with new ones when they die off. There are between 50 and 75 trillion cells in the body and each type of cell has its own life span. For example, red blood cells live for about four months, while white blood cells live on average more than a year. Skin cells live about two or three weeks. Colon cells have it rough: They die off after about four days. Sperm cells have a life span of only about three days, while brain cells typically last an entire lifetime (neurons in the cerebral cortex, for example, are not replaced when they die).

The Role of Toxins, Nutrition and Lifestyle in Cellular Aging

Unless we properly nourish our cells and eliminate and avoid toxins, our cells become increasingly less healthy as we grow older. Our world has become increasingly toxic and toxins build up in cells which are not properly cleansed, which causes the cells to become less and less healthy. When we also fail to properly nourish our cells with optimum nutrition, our cells also become less healthy.

The late, great French Scientist Antoine Bechamp explained that the cause of almost all disease is a combination of unhealthy, undernourished cells and toxins. Such a combination is an open invitation to disease and illness. A prime example is cancer. Toxins are far and away the number one cause of cancer - particularly prolonged exposure to toxins in combination with unhealthy cellular terrain. I should also point out that improperly nourished and cleansed cells and a poor lifestyle weakens our vital natural immune system, which is our first line of defense against cancer and other disease.

Clearly then, the way to grow into a healthier, younger version of ourselves is to eliminate and avoid toxins and change from an unhealthy diet and lifestyle to a healthy one. The healthier you live and eat the healthier your cells will become and those healthier cells will become the blueprint for new cells instead of unhealthy ones. Yes, it really is as simple as that - but it takes effort and determination.

Here are some key measures we must take to grow healthier and younger:

1. Eliminate and Avoid Toxins

If you avoid toxins and eliminate toxins from your body and your home and work environments then you will be much more likely to live longer and healthier. 2. Make Sure You Have a Healthy Liver

The liver is our body's primary toxin removal organ and a healthy liver is essential for good health. When the liver Is impaired, toxins that should have been eliminated will instead be stored in the liver, leading to a fatty liver condition, or else recirculated throughout the body via the blood stream – and they will continue to build up in our cells.

To make sure that your liver is healthy, regularly conduct liver and gallbladder cleanses and take key supplements. Milk thistle (silymarin) has been certified by the German E Commission to be able to protect, cleanse and regenerate the liver. Two other key supplements for liver health are selenium and alpha-lipoic acid, both of which also have anti-aging properties.

3. Eat a Very Healthy Diet

Be sure to eat a very healthy alkalizing paleo-type diet which includes plenty of fresh vegetables as well as fresh fruits, nuts, and seeds and nutrient dense unprocessed foods that contribute to good health and boost the vital immune system. For the healthiest diet, choose organic content as much as possible and include foods which are proven immune boosters. Note that a recent year study found that eating an organic diet for a week can reduce pesticide levels by up to 90%. It is probably safe to assume that other toxins will also be drastically reduced.

Besides avoiding junk foods, fast foods and sugary foods and beverages, it is also a good idea to carefully read the labels when buying packaged food items from the grocers. It has been estimated that 80% of the packaged items found on grocers' shelves in the U.S. contain one or more ingredients which have been banned in other countries.

Use caution when buying non-organic vegetables and fruits, since they often contain harmful pesticides. Find out which ones are the worst and which are the safest by looking at the Dirty Dozen and Clean Fifteen lists of the Environmental Working Group.

4. Make Sure to Have Optimum Nutrition

People with nutritional deficiencies are more likely to become ill and age faster. Most of us are deficient in multiple vitamins and minerals. For example, it has been variously estimated that 70 to 95 percent of us are deficient in magnesium – the “master mineral” that plays a role in over 300 body processes. Other common nutrient deficiencies include vitamins D, K2, B12, E, and A, omega-3, magnesium, iodine, calcium, iron, and choline. It is a  good idea to be tested for nutritional deficiencies and then supplement as needed to address any deficiencies found.

A healthy diet is essential; however, contrary to the mainstream myth, it is virtually impossible to get optimum nutrition from diet alone. Thanks to our mineral-depleted soils and food products which have had much of the nutrition processed out (and toxic additives processed in), it is pretty much impossible to get even the measly RDA amounts of the handful of vitamins and major minerals on a daily basis from diet alone.

In addition to addressing deficiencies, it is a very good idea to regularly take a good all-around nutritional product. Be sure to get organic, whole food derived supplements as much as possible. Our bodies know the difference between nutrients found in nature and those created by man.

5. Get Plenty of Regular Sunshine and Vitamin D3

Without life giving sunshine there would be no life as we know it. The human body is designed to convert sunlight on the skin into Vitamin D3, an absolutely essential substance for optimum health and longevity.

Thanks in great part to the big sun scare that began a few decades ago, many millions of people avoid essential, life giving sunshine. When they do go out in the sun, people often slather on sunscreen and sunblock products which block the healthy rays from the sun but often fail to block harmful rays.

A good rule of thumb is to get natural sunshine as often as you can and take supplemental vitamin D3 when you cannot. Avoid overexposure by seeking shade or coming inside when your skin first begins to turn pink - and note that indirect sunshine is also beneficial.

6. Manage Stress and Address Unresolved Emotional Issues

Stress has been called “the silent killer” for good reason – it leads to illness and prevents recovery from illness. Manage stress with techniques such as meditation, employing Emotional Freedom Technique tapping exercises and exerise. Suggested reading:

7. Physical Activity

People who get regular physical activity are much healthier physically and mentally than those who don't.  Physical activity boosts the immune system and affords a stronger body that is better able to ward off disease. It also releases chemicals called endorphins, which react with receptors in your brain to improve mood and reduce the perception of pain.

8. Key Anti-Aging and Health Boosting Supplements

In addition to a superior all around nutritional supplement and the other items mentioned in this article (such as magnesium, iodine, selenium, alpha-lipoic acid, etc.), a number of other supplements can play a key role In cellular health, immunity and anti-aging. Some of my favorites are:

As noted earlier in this article, listening to music helps produce more neurons – vital brain cells which are not replaced one-for-one like most other cells. Though this author cannot swear to it, he is reasonably sure that this does not work and may even produce the opposite effect when the music is gangsta rap, hip-hop or punk or acid rock. : )

So there you have it, a fairly simple plan to becoming a healthier and younger you. Can you do it? If so, a healthier and longer life are there for you!
