Natural Sinus Medicine That Works
by Barbara Minton
(The Best Years in Life) Sinusitis is an annoying condition. Not sick enough to stay home in bed but not your usual self either, sinus problems leave you dragging through the day. The misery of sinusitis usually comes from inflammation caused by viral, bacterial or fungal infection. When sinuses are healthy they are open, allowing mucus to drain and air to circulate in the nasal passages. When sinuses become inflamed, mucus cannot drain and eventually the sinus cavities become blocked causing pain and pressure. Blocked sinus cavities offer the perfect environment for bacteria, viruses and fungus to live and multiply quickly. Fortunately there is natural sinus medicine that works.
What you can do to end sinus misery
The best way to deal with sinusitis is not to get it in the first place. To keep your immune system strong:
*Get 8 to 9 hours of sleep every night
*Eat a plant based diet that includes plenty of organic fruits and vegetables
*Go outside and breath fresh air for at least 15 minutes every day
*Drink kefir or take a probiotic supplement daily
*Avoid antibacterial products such as hand sanitizer and antibacterial soap because they destroy immunity
*Avoid drinking chlorinated water
If a virus, bacteria or fungus manages to sneak by your well tuned immune system, the best way to stop it in its tracks is with colloidal silver. At the very first sign of a cold or virus, take colloidal silver at the dosage recommended on the bottle. You can usually head off any infection with two or three doses of silver if you take it at the absolute first sign of infection. If you wait until infection is established, it takes much more to get rid of it.
If you have sinusitis or find yourself highly susceptible to it, having a first class natural remedy on hand is important. Pick out a formulation that will attack sinusitis on all fronts and leave you feeling better quickly. And remember that only natural remedies promote real healing. Drugs do little more than mask symptoms. Here are specific components found in the best natural remedies. Look for a product that contain several of these:
*N-acetyl cysteine (NAC) - a powerful antioxidant in its own right and a more stable form of the amino acid cysteine. NAC helps to increase the body's supply of glutathione and maintain it at adequate levels in the cells. Glutathoine is one of the body's internally produced antioxidants that helps keep the immune system strong. NAC helps break down and clear mucus from the sinus cavities and respiratory tract, and decreases both the frequency and duration of infections. It is useful in treating chronic bronchitis.
NAC is also used by the liver and the lymphocytes to detoxify chemicals and other poisons. It is a tremendous detoxifier of alcohol, cigarette smoke and environmental pollution. NAC can boost the levels of protective enzymes in the body to slow some of the cellular damage that is characteristic of aging.
*Andrographis - is one of the best-proven herbs against infection, and it cannot be beat for fighting colds, influenza and acute bacterial sinusitis. In a study of 158 cold sufferers, nasal secretions dried up significantly for those who took andrographis for five says.
Andrographis is native to India and highly valued in Ayurvedic medicine. It is found in the materia medica of other traditional medical systems, including those of China and Thailand where it is valued for its use in liver disorders as well as for fighting infections. It is considered a cold herb and is used to clear heat from the blood. Andrographis is used to strengthen digestion and diminish flatulence.
*Siberian Ginseng - also known as Eleuthero, is a drying herb that helps dry up fluid and mucus, and reduce phlegm. Siberian Ginseng is a toning adaptogen and an anti-inflammatory. It acts as a tonic to the nervous and immune systems. Siberian Ginseng is useful when the hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal axis (HPA) is depleted, a condition signaled by fatigue, stress, neurasthenia, sore muscles, adrenal exhaustion and dark circles under the eyes.
When Siberian Ginseng is taken regularly it decreases cortisol production and promotes improved cognitive and physical performance. In human studies this herb has been used to treat bone marrow suppression caused by chemotherapy or radiation, angina, elevated cholesterol, insomnia, and poor appetite. It has been shown to have a significant antidepressant effect in rats.
*Turmeric - is another herb used in Ayurvedic and Chinese medicine for thousands of years. Its active ingredient curcumin helps reduce inflammation of the sinuses and heal sinus cavities. Research funded by the National Institutes of Health has shown that turmeric has antibiotic and antiviral effects and is able to lower histamine levels. Turmeric is a potent natural pain killer that is able to do away with pain as effectively as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as Ibuprofen.
Turmeric is a good treatment for arthritis, injuries, trauma, and stiffness from under and over activity. If used before and after surgery, it will decrease pain and inflammation and accelerate healing and return to balance. Turmeric is used by Yogis to help them attain and hold asanas and to avoid injuries and pain.
*Bromelain - is an enzyme mixture from pineapples that has been approved by the German Commission E for the treatment of sinus inflammation. Bromelain is highly effective against congestion and sinus headaches. Clinical studies have shown that children diagnosed with acute sinusitis recover significantly faster when treated with bromelain than when given other treatments.
*Berberine - also known as Oregon Graperoot, berberine is anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, and astringent. It has immune stimulating effects and is indicated for sinus infection, streptococcus or sore throat, ear infections and pneumonia.
Berberine is also used for treating bladder infections, intestinal parasites, and vaginal infections. It may kill many types of bacteria including E. coli, and prevent bacteria from adhering to the lining of the bladder. Berberine can kill staph bacteria, a common cause of pink eye.
