Swiss Style Muesli
Give your morning a healthy start with this Swiss version of oatmeal – muesli. This unique meal is served cold and made with whole grain oats, packed with fiber, and protein-rich yogurt. Raisins, cranberries and apples add cancer-fighting phytochemicals and rich flavor. Research has found that those who eat breakfast have a lower body fat than those who skip the morning meal. Weighing in at just 300 calories, one bowlful can help keep you feeling full all morning.
(As always, choose organic content as much as possible for the healthiest recipe.)
1. Place oats in bowl with top. Cover oats with water. Cover bowl. Refrigerate overnight.
2. In morning, drain any excess water.
3. Combine dried and fresh fruit, honey, sugar, spice and yogurt. Gently stir to mix.
4. Sprinkle almonds on top. Serve chilled and enjoy.
Makes 6 servings.
Per serving: 300 calories, 10 g total fat (2 g saturated fat), 42 g carbohydrate, 13 g protein, 5 g dietary fiber, 88 mg sodium.
