The Stealth Danger of LED Lights

(The Best Years in Life) Should you be using LED lights? World class expert in photobiology, Dr. Alexander Munsch, calls LED lights a Trojan horse because they appear to be extremely versatile and practical. LED lighting has many advantages such as being solid state, energy saving, and durable. But when LEDs are invited into our homes, they can become extremely harmful to many of the systems in the human body, including the central nervous system and the endocrine system. Yet, most people experiencing such bodily disturbances are completely unaware that their LED lights are the culprit.
“There are major downsides to LEDs that are not fully appreciated”, says natural health authority Dr. Joseph Mercola, who is working with Dr. Munsch to spread the word about the dangers of this form of lighting. “LED lighting may actually be one of the most important, non-native EMF radiation exposures you’re exposed to on a daily basis.”
Under the rubric of saving energy, LED lighting has become ubiquitous, and it is true that lots of energy and money have been saved. Unfortunately, the kind of lighting that is compatible with humans is the heat-generating incandescent kind of lighting that we have been told to throw out. This is the lighting that features near infrared radiation, which is absent in LEDs and which sponsors good health.

The range encompassing near infrared light works on the human body in many positive ways. One of the most important is its ability to prime cells in the retina of the eyes for repair and regeneration. Without this function, macular degeneration becomes almost a sure thing. This eye disease is caused by the deterioration of the central portion of the retina, the inside back layer of the eye that records the images we see, and sends them via the optic nerve from the eye to the brain. The retina’s central portion, known as the macula, is responsible for focusing central vision in the eye, and it controls the ability to read, drive, recognize faces and colors, and see objects in fine details. The 10 million people who now have macular degeneration are testimony to the embracing of LEDs. These lights have no infrared spectrum of any kind, but they do have an excess of blue light that generates reactive oxygen species (ROS). This makes LED lights harmful to overall health as well.
Light absorbing molecules, known as chromophores, provide a tissue window allowing infared light to penetrate human tissues to a depth of an inch or more. These molecules are found in the mitrochondria, the cellular furnace found in every cell in our bodies, in which the biochemical processes of respiration and energy production take place. The end product of this is cellular energy, in the form of adenosine triphosphate (ATP).

ATP fuels cells for all of their varied functioning, including ion transport, synthesizing and metabolism. Without ATP, death ensues within 15 minutes. This is why the issue of lighting is a critical one. Without infrared light, biological energy production cannot take place.
Speaking on the importance of infrared lighting, Dr. Munsch says, “We know today that many signs of aging, for example, are the consequence of hampered mitochondrial functioning, and so we have a very interesting … tool to enhance the energy status in our cells, in the mitochondria in our cells, and not only on the surface but also in the depths … of the tissue. This is one important aspect and there are hundreds of papers published on these positive effects.”
Wound healing and anti-aging procedures now make use of the healing power found in infrared because it increases production of ATP and supplies energy for quicker recovery. According to Dr. Mercola, “this means liver cells with more ATP will be able to detoxify your body more efficiently; fibroblasts in your skin will be able to detoxify your body more efficiently; fibroblasts in your skin will be able to synthesize more collagen fibers and so on, because ATP is crucial for all cellular functions.”
Infrared radiation is important in maintaining optimal body temperature and thermal energy level. People who are constantly cold need to know that infrared supports thermal balance.
There is nothing natural about LED light
The bottom line is that LED light produced from an LED bulb is not the same as natural light that comes from the sun or from incandescent light bulbs. Unlike LED light, natural light emits all kinds of wavelengths in a continuous manner.
LEDs are fluorescent lights, created with a blue LED and a fluorescent sheet covering the blue LED and transforming it into a longer wavelength, creating a yellowish light. This yellowish light combines with the residual blue light to create a kind of whitish light, with a large amount of aggressive blue light – the kind of light that produces reactive oxygen species (ROS).
This blue light emits primarily blue wavelengths and lacks any counterbalancing healing and regenerating near-infrared frequencies. There is very little red at all in LEDs and no infrared which is the wavelength required for repair and regeneration of the human body.
LED lighting may be cheaper, but the risk to health makes it a very poor bargain.
