These Five Compounds May Save You from Cancer
by Barbara Minton
(The Best Years in Life) One out of every two men and one out of every three women will get cancer during their lifetime. A great many of them will die from either their cancer or as a result of the chemotherapy and/or radiation mainstream medicine employs to try to beat cancer. Roughly a hundred years ago only three out of every hundred people died from cancer, and breast cancer was virtually non-existent. Will you fall victim to this vicious disease? To keep cancer away, be sure your diet is rich in these proven cancer fighters.
Vitamin C – Groundbreaking research on the potential for vitamin C to stop cancer was published last year in the peer-reviewed journal Science Translational Medicine. Researchers tested the effects of vitamin C given in high doses intravenously to a group of human subjects. They found that their vitamin C eradicated cancer cells while leaving healthv cells intact.
This is nothing new to Dr. Mark Sircus, who says intravenous vitamin C can bring cancer into remission even in late-stage patients, because it creates hydrogen peroxide which kills cancer cells directly. Can you imagine what increasing your daily intake of vitamin C could do to prevent cancer?
Vitamin C is a dainty vitamin that remains in the body for only a very short time and it destroyed by heat. This means is must be consumed daily, and foods containing it should not be cooked or pasteurized. Vitamin C is found in most fruits and vegetables, with bell peppers, cabbage, strawberries, mangoes, broccoli, kiwi and spinach having the highest amounts. Buy fresh fruit or vegetables, rather than buying bottled juices, which will have been pasteurized and have had their vitamin C destroyed.
Vitamin B-17 – This is also known as amygdalin. In 1924, a patented drug was synthesized from amygdalin and named laetrile. In the early 1970s, Sloan Kettering swept positive cancer findings about laetrile under the rug when it became unprofitable and Big Pharma was muscling in to elbow out natural treatments. Dr. Joseph Mercola characterized the action as “one of the most reprehensible cover-ups in the history of cancer research.”
Amygdalin is found in the seeds of many fruits, including apricot, apple, plum, peach, cherry and quince. It is also found in almonds. Amygalin contains cyanide, which is believed to be its active anti-cancer component. Don’t shy away from cyanide, as all fruits with cores or pits contain similar traces of it. Instead, add almonds to your diet, and be sure to eat the seeds from your apples just like horses do. The body detoxifies cyanide in small doses, which is all that’s needed to make B-17 a top notch cancer preventive.
Selenium – Researchers have discovered that selenium works to modulate gene expression and suppress a protein involved in tumor onset, growth, and metastasis in the very early stages. What’s more important is that selenium insufficiency increases cancer risk. Large-scale studies have demonstrated that populations with low selenium levels are at significantly increased risk of having many different types of cancer. They all confirmed that adequate selenium in the diet provides cancer preventive effects, especially for prostate, breast and colorectal cancers.
The best source of dietary selenium is Brazil nuts. Eating about six average sized Brazil nuts everyday will meet the daily requirement for selenium. Other good sources include tuna, halibut, sardines, shrimp, and ham. Don’t worry about eating these fish – each has ample selenium to purify the body of mercury.
Zinc – This mineral improves cell mediated immune functions, and acts as an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory agent. Oxidative stress and chronic inflammation have been implicated in the formation of many cancers, and especially cancers of the breast. Research has shown that nearly 65% of patients with cancers of the head and neck were deficient in zinc. The activity of natural killer (NK) cell activity and IL-2 generation were adversely affected by low levels of the mineral.
Zinc status is correlated with hospital admissions and incidences of infections. Increasing zinc consumption has positive effects on cancer risk by decreasing the ability of a tumor to set up a blood supply, and increasing the programmed death of cells known as apoptosis. When cells die on schedule they are not a threat. Having optimal levels of zinc is important for women, as breast tissue is highly sensitive to the presence of zinc.
Good sources of zinc include beef, lamb, sesame and pumpkin seeds, lentils, garbanzo beans, cashews, and turkey.
Iodine – Webster Kehr, also known as the Cancer Tutor who moderates the highly read and respected website of the same name, has pointed out that three of the best known cancer doctors, Henry Hoxsey, Max Gerson, and Cornelis Moerman all included some form of iodine in their treatments. Iodine is known to thin the lymph fluid that acts as the sewer system of the body, making it far more effective at doing its job which is disposing of cellular waste. A poorly functioning lymph system is a gateway to cancer.
Epidemiological and histological evidence have supported the conclusion that iodine is essential for health and the differentiation of tissues. A deficiency is a hidden risk factor for the development and advancement of various cancers including those of the stomach, breast, prostate, and perhaps many others. In addition, it is supportive of thyroid function, which when not optimal can have its own path to cancer.
Sources of iodine include sea vegetables, scallops, cod, yogurt, shrimp, sardines, salmon, cow’s milk, eggs and tuna.
It is interesting to note that many natural health advocates are championing fruits and vegetables as our saviors from cancer. Yet it is clear that many of the best foods that reduce risk of the disease come from animals.

deficiency is a worldwide problem. Diets that are
deficient in iodine can result in many severe medical
conditions including cretinism ( very severe brain
damage occurring in very early life), mental impairment,
