Choosing the Best Pet Food - and Why We Choose Nature's Logic

by Luella May

(The Best Years in Life) With the wide variety of pet foods on the market, it can be difficult to determine if the food you are giving your pet is healthy. All too often caring and loving pet owners choose their dog food based on advertising. Little do they realize that the name brand pet foods advertised as having healthy, complete nutrition are in fact some of the worst foods they can feed their pets.

Proper nutrition is critical in your pet's wellness and behavior, and what you choose to feed your pet is not a decision that should be taken lightly. It is important to do the proper research when when deciding what is the best food for your pet.

The importance of healthy food for pets is not well understood. Almost every commercial pet food on the market will say that they are the best when, in reality, most do not have the proper nutrition that our pets need. All too often caring and loving owners mistakenly continue to buy food that is often causing ill health and premature death. Conscientious pet owners typically want to make sure that their pets are well taken care of and well fed, but they are being misinformed.

A well fed pet isn't necessarily a well nourished pet. getting the nutrition it needs. In order to have optimal health and longevity, the food that we give our pets must contain optimum nutritional value. Feeding low quality commercial foods to our pets on a regular basis leads to poor health, and its effects can be deadly. Just as with humans, food plays a crucial role in how well our pets are nourished.

In reality, most commercial pet foods contain ingredients that are not well understood by consumers and that have been banned from human consumption. If you check the labels on grocery store foods, you've probably already begun to see that the list of ingredients doesn't always tell the whole truth about what's in your food. It's the very same with your pets. Here are some clues: "meat byproducts" and "meat meal" are often the primary protein sources in your pet's food. These innocent sounding descriptions are actually horrific manufacturing practices that would make you sick. Both are parts of animals that in no way are meat. In actuality, these are the parts of the animal that are left over after the meat has been stripped away from the bone.

Chicken by-products include head, feet, entrails, lungs, spleen, kidneys, brain, liver, stomach, bones, blood, intestines, and many of those things are not considered to be fit for human consumption. Meat meal can contain the boiled down flesh of animals that we would never even think of eating. It can include zoo animals, road kill, and dead, diseased, disabled, and dying livestock. It can also include deceased dogs and cats.

In addition, pet food manufacturers add dangerous preservatives and vitamin fortifications that actually make your pet's food less healthy. Let's look at the chemical dangers in commercial pet food:

Chemicals used to euthanize zoo animals, dogs and cats can survive the cooking process, which means these chemicals end up in your pet's food, and this means that it ends up in your pet. So this means that poisons used to kill pets are the same ones being fed to them.

The other ingredients in pet foods aren't much better. Cheap grain fillers, cellulose to bulk up the food, preservatives and poorly monitored synthetic vitamin and crushed rock mineral supplements can also be found in commercial pet foods (the same as is true in popular over the counter vitamins and minerals for humans)..

Preservatives and food dyes keep pet foods seemingly fresh for long periods of time. Unfortunately such preservatives and dyes are often harmful chemicals. Other harmful chemicals found in many pet foods include herbicides, insecticides, and pesticides used by farmers to boost crop yields.

So what are we to do to ensure that our pet gets the nutrition that it needs?

The answer is Nature's Logic Dog and cat food. Here is why the only dog food we feed our three rescued "found dogs" is Nature's Logic:

In 2005, Scott Freeman, founder of Nature’s Logic, decided that he would develop a pet food that would contain whole foods nutrition. He vowed not to use any harmful additives and synthetic supplements that are widely used in the pet food industry today and he partnered with a holistic veterinarian to ensure that our pets would have the highest nutritional value available.

Mr. Freeman sent his pet food for AAFCO (Association of American Feed Control Officials) feeding trials. Nature's Logic met AAFCO's standards with flying colors. Additionally, Nature's Logic pet food has been given a 5 star rating on the Dog Food Advisor website. By comparison, virtually even name-brand highly advertised dog food receive only the very lowest 1 star rating, the same rating given to Walmart's bargain dog food Ol Roy.

Nature's Logic's mission is to provide the most nutritious and safest pet food for your furry companion to insure total wellness, so that you can have your pet's company for many years to come. You can feel good and be assured that you are giving your pet the best of everything when you feed your pet with Nature's Logic.

Note: We buy our dry Nature's Logic dog food from Chewy.com and they deliver it right to our front door on a regular basis, alternating between beef, chicken, duck, lamb, fish, venison & rabbit. Our dogs love every variety and we give all of them our very highest recommendation!
